What Is Red Light Therapy?

Red light therapy (RLT) is a treatment that uses a low wavelength of red light to improve your skin’s appearance by reducing wrinkles, scars, redness, or acne. It does this by influencing your mitochondria, considered to be your body’s “power plant”. When these cells are impacted by additional energy, it causes the other cells to become energized, which in turn repairs your skin, boosts new cell growth and enhances skin rejuvenation.

The following are just some of the ways that Red Light Therapy is beneficial to you:

  • Improved fibroblast production, which makes collagen
  • Increased blood circulation to the tissue
  • Reduced cell inflammation
  • Stimulated collagen production, giving your skin its structure, strength, and elasticity

What are the benefits of Red Light Therapy?

Even though RLT is still a relatively new technology, it is safe, effective, and can be used on any skin type and skin color. Our Cincinnati patients have benefited from improvements in the following areas:

The benefits of using hyaluronic acid fillers include:

  • Acne
  • Facial texture
  • Hair growth (specifically for people with androgenic alopecia)
  • Psoriasis, rosacea, and eczema
  • Scarring
  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Wound healing

RLT can also be used to reduce Age Spots, Fine Lines, Stretch Marks, and Wrinkles. In some cases, RLT has been used to reduce chemotherapy side effects, relieve pain and inflammation associated with tendonitis, arthritis, or carpal tunnel syndrome, and prevent cold sores.

We feel the best candidates for Red Light Therapy are patients who:

  • Are non-smokers
  • Have skincare concerns such as acne, dermatitis, dull skin, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, sun damage, scarring, and some wounds
  • Have been suffering from skin conditions, noticing no results from using over-the-counter skin products
  • Maintain a positive and realistic mentality for results

What to Expect on the Day of Red Light Therapy

Your technician will place the Red Light Therapy device above your face. The device will emit very low-frequency waves into your skin, stimulating the mitochondria, which energize the other cells in your body.

The treatment usually lasts about 20 minutes.

Red Light Therapy Recovery

Following your treatment, you will be able to return to your daily activities. It is strongly recommended to avoid the sun for the next several days and to apply quality sunscreen to ensure a positive and healthy recovery.
