Introduction to PRP

When you get an open wound, your body quickly goes into action to heal itself by utilizing certain cells such as platelets to mend the traumatized area. Scientists and researchers have discovered that while standard, controlled trauma can stimulate the production of collagen and elastin for better skin, the use of platelets can improve healing as well as give that production an added boost! At Elite Medicine, we offer this increasingly popular technique of using those platelets in aesthetic skincare with PRP in Cincinnati. What Is PRP?

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Injections are a minimally invasive treatment that uses your blood platelets to combat the signs of aging by giving your face more youthful fullness and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Sometimes called a “Vampire Facial” due to the nature of the treatment, an exact amount of blood (approximately two tablespoons) will be drawn into a vial which is then placed in a centrifuge. This machine spins the vial fast enough to separate the blood components from the platelet concentrate. After being separated, the platelets are utilized in a Microneedling process, where Dr. Ridge uses a handheld device that punctures your skin thousands of times using very fine needles, with the platelets being injected simultaneously. This process stimulates collagen and elastin production with the PRP adding an extra dose of healing properties. This treatment is a wonderful and safe way to treat the following skin conditions:

  • Acne scars
  • Fine lines
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Large pores
  • Stretch marks
  • Sun damage
  • Surgical scars
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Wrinkles

What are the benefits of PRP?

At Elite Medicine, we have seen our Cincinnati PRP patients enjoy the following benefits from their treatment:

The benefits of using hyaluronic acid fillers include:

  • Increased collagen production
  • Long-lasting results
  • Quick recovery time
  • Reduces scar appearance
  • Safe treatment
  • Smoothens fine lines and wrinkles
  • Works on all skin types

If you are considering PRP in Cincinnati, you could be a great candidate if you have some of these characteristics:

  • Are committed to maintaining a proper skincare routine
  • Do not currently have severe skin conditions
  • Have realistic expectations for the outcome of the treatment
  • Looking to even out skin texture
  • Nonsmoker
  • Maintain a positive attitude

Unfortunately, if you have been diagnosed with Hepatitis C, HIV or AIDS, any type of blood cancer, or skin cancer in the area to be treated, this treatment is not recommended for you. Also, if you have been using Accutane for the previous six months, have wounds or infections, have undergone radiation in the past year, or are currently pregnant or breastfeeding, you may need to wait until the time is right before getting the PRP treatment.

Who are the Best Candidates for PRP?

What’s the First Step?

The first step in getting PRP in Cincinnati is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Shelli Ridge at Elite Medicine. When you come in for your appointment, Dr. Ridge will evaluate your skin, answer any questions you may have about the treatment, listen to your aesthetic goals, and ask you questions regarding your medical history. When discussing your medical history, it is very important to be open and honest as it will help prevent any unnecessary risks or side effects. After gathering all of this information, Dr. Ridge will create your treatment plan and if you agree with it, our Patient Coordinator will be able to help you schedule your treatment date and time.

What to Expect on the Day of PRP

When you come into our boutique Med Spa, we will want you to be as comfortable and relaxed as possible. Your treatment will begin with your blood being drawn and placed into the centrifuge. After about 15 minutes when the platelet-rich plasma is separated, Dr. Ridge will use a handheld applicator that will simultaneously puncture your skin to induce collagen production and inject the PRP into your body. This portion of the treatment goes by very quickly and may slightly sting as the needles pierce your skin, but most patients find it more uncomfortable than painful. Once your targeted area has been treated, your face will be cleaned off and the remaining PRP will be applied to provide additional healing.

PRP Recovery

You will be able to return to your normal routine following your treatment, however, you should keep in mind that your face will be severely reddened and may even appear “blood-like” due to the numerous microscopic holes. We recommend taking it very easy for the first few days and using this time to relax. Although we know you will want to, you should avoid washing your face after your treatment until the following day. You can expect to still notice some minor skin imperfections for the next few days, but they can typically be covered up with light makeup.

Over the next few weeks, you will notice the healing properties of PRP as there will be an increased collagen production, reduction in any fine lines and wrinkles, improvement in dark pigmentation and scars, and better skin texture and tone.

How Much Does PRP Cost in Cincinnati?

The cost of PRP in Cincinnati will vary based on numerous factors, including the location and size of the treatment area. When you meet with Dr. Ridge and she can create your treatment plan, our Patient Coordinator can give you a breakdown of the total cost.
